A regional patient and teaching hospital, Hackensack University Medical Center is the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services in the state of New Jersey. Paul Onufer, Hackensack's director of materials management, saw room for improvement in the hospital's Distribution Services department. "We felt that Distribution Services was being slowed by an inefficient storage system, which consisted entirely of wire racking and wooden pallets. Also, the storage space in the 3700 sq. ft. supply room was underutilized."

After examining several storage options, Hackensack selected a modular storage system from Lista. Specifically, Hackensack opted to replace its old inflexible, inefficient system with 54 sections of Lista's Shallow Depth Storage Wall system. Arranged in nine, convenient, organized rows, the Storage Wall system features high density modular drawers, roll-out trays, adjustable shelves and wide span beams, all of which filled unique roles for the hospital.
Within the drawers, Hackensack stores smaller, faster-moving items, such as ostemy supplies, hand lotions and soaps. Heavier items, including custom packs for surgical procedures, are stored on the roll-out trays. In addition, surgical gloves, suction tubing, gauze, sponging and other bulk supplies are conveniently kept on adjustable shelves above the drawers.

"Where our old system was inflexible and cumbersome," says Onufer, "the Lista Storage Wall system offers space efficiency, optimizes organization and facilitates item retrieval. We've gained valuable storage space with the Storage Wall system. Plus, all hospital supplies are now within easy reach, which enables our staff to be more productive."
